Yoga for Neurological Conditions

08.14.2011

This workshop focused on making Iyengar Yoga accessible for students with neurological & physical limitations. Attendance required familiarity with the first section of Eric Small’s book “Yoga and Multiple Sclerosis”. The first part served as an introduction to yoga for people with significant symptoms from MS. The chapters describe a therapeutic approach to practice.

About the teacher: Eric Small was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when he was 22. Soon after, he became a serious student of Hatha yoga, which began to help him with the effects of the illness. Iyengar-certified as Intermediate Senior 2, he has taught at the Iyengar Yoga Institute Los Angeles and has assisted at Iyengar Yoga conventions.

With the support of the Southern California Chapter of the MS Society, the Eric Small Yoga Program has served hundreds of clients. His work was recognized in 1999 with the Hope For MS Award and in 2001 by his induction into the National MS Society Volunteer Hall of Fame.
